According to several sources - like http://techcrunch.com/2011/08/19/apple-ios-5-phasing-out-udid/ - Apple is phasing out the UDID in iOS5 meaning that developers cannot count on it for generating unique keys for things like In-app purchases and top lists.
How does this affect Corona and specifically the
1 | system.getInfo( "deviceID" ) |
I would argue that you don't need it.
If you need something to identify me the customer that's unique with your service, let me create my own unique ID with you (email address, etc.)
I know advertisers are hungry to know that you're you so they can target target target.
Typing stuff to the phones unique ID is a bad thing. Say I upgrade my phone and sell mine to someone else. All targeted ads to me are now going to someone who likely has completely different interests. I don't want them (and they probably don't want) having my top scores or keyed to my in-app purchases.
I"m me, track me, not my phone.
