app market strategy for android

I am new to Corona but quickly learning :-). Released my first Android app (Eat Right - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.tukulogics.letseatright) and it was published almost immediately in the App Market (woohoo...!). Amazon and Apple still reviewing.

What strategy do you guys use to market your Android apps? What works? What doesn't? I know there are tons of blogs (including Ansca's) and they pretty much talk about the same stuff which in reality is tough and can be a pricey adventure. I know from my experience, in Apple's App Store, I can get 3-5 downloads a day without doing almost any marketing. Why is it not the same for such a big Android market? What's the deal? Android users are less likey to pay? What's your experience? What do you guys do?

Android users wont pay, thats the bottom line. I would recommend making your application free and putting advertisements in it for Android. You will make way more money that way.

funny... that's exactly what I was thinking :-). I see there are few adnetwork options available. which one you guys use or recommend?

I use InMobi currently, but it might be better to go with interactive since they give you 100% rev share when you sign up until February.

Hey Ninja pig,

I have downloaded your game on the android market and am getting fond of it. It's simple, but fun. I am thinking of releasing my game on android for 1.00 but what you just said does not make me want to any more. I would make it free but I think it gives an app for a cheaper feel to it, it does not have the same value. It's just my opinion. I like how you added the ads, it does not disrupt the gameplay. Do the android users really not buy?

Thanks for your help!

- Nice call of duty gameplay, saw your vids, how old are you? ;)

well if you look at the android market all the big guns are using ads too... it's a different mindset in Android. making a lite version of my app with ad to experiment. will see how it goes. will keep you guys posted

Michael,

Thank you so much for your feedback! It's awesome to know that people like the game so much. That was actually my first official game I created and I am working on much bigger projects now. I am 17 years old and currently live in San Jose CA. How about you?

Your Welcome!

I am 14, I live near SF, California also. Were close! You work on bigger projects, like what?
The game is fun! It is also annoying :P... I'm currently woking on my first project, having some difficulties with the age limit for IOS, need to be 18 years old to have your name as individual. They just rejected my developer account... Ugh... I also want to have it on android devices.

I've seen you on many forums and you look like your specialized in android. Do you have any tips on publicizing your app? Because I've seen that you have done well!

This is still really new to me, but i have been working on this game for about 8 months now... Can't wait for the release.

I probably shouldn't make this public but when I signed up, I said that I was 18 :D

Maybe I shouldn't have done that but really they don't care. I signed up for the Android Market too. Honestly, I would recommend focusing on Nook and Android since the iPhone AppStore is over inflated with applications. I'm posting my games on iPhone right now, but my game is pending publication. I would love it if you followed me on Twitter @ninjapigstudios and sent me an email so I can contact you if us Corona developers ever meet up in the future.

On IOS it's kind of different. You need your billing information to match your name. So in my case i need to use my parents credit card, but the name needs to match the same name as the individual. I would love to contact you, i don't have a twitter but a facebook at the moment. I can email you?

Oh and what website maker did you make to produce your website, it is very nice. I am currently looking at Ipage but yours looks great.

Oh God, my website is horrible right now. It's not even finished. I used Wordpress and did a lot of html to edit the template. You can add me on Facebook (Jordan Schuetz). I actually have a credit card so I guess that's why I didn't have any trouble doing it.

Haha. It's not that bad.

That's not fair. It's so easy fo you ;) ok il add you.

Hey guys, sorry, btw I`ve followed you @Ninja Pig on Twitter. I`ve seen your history here and by this I got to see your game as @Michael mentioned. WOW...the game looks like a lot of fun! Sadly I do not own any Android device actually.

Hope you success and it`s nice to see some nice and real story like yours...and beeing so young, better yet. :)

Thanks,
Cheers,
Rodrigo.

Thanks RSC! If you don't mind me asking, how did you get so many followers on Twitter? Trust me Michael it's not easy for me, it's a challenge, but I just get through it. I haven't received your friend request yet?

If you need any help feel free to contact me with anything :)

Hi Ninja Pig, do not worry. I`ve been on twitter by some time already and so on I am targeting on this marketing tool as well as other "modern" ways to doing it. I have a literally boom into my twitter after become a member of the #IDRTG Group - http://www.innovatty.com/twitter/IDRTG/index.php - as it is a great community of Indie Developers and there the rule is RT any of the other devs twitters! :) So each one helps each other and also minute by minute get new followers (although not at all are looking forward apps only). I like that and I need as more marketing tools as I can get into btw. :)

PS: Without marketing knowledge at all we need even more "hard-work"to get it!

You`re welcome.

Cheers,
Rodrigo.

Ok RSC, I signed up, now how can I get more followers? What do I have to do?

I sent a friend request.

Just place there your twitter message and the other devs (me also) will start to retweet it right away and so you will pass to notice there how many have RT your tweets and by this start you will see the followers coming as it was what I`ve done by far.

If you noticed, there are members with 100K+ followers!!! So I believe I am still very far from the "ideal" for marketing purposes but everyday I make my work and try to keep it clean and growing. :)

Other thing I would tell you is about Klout (www.klout.com). I like that tool and I love the stats they provide about your reach and followers. I can say that it has helped me (twitter) a lot too. Have a look there if you want.

PS: The most important is: Keep working on it, EVERYDAY! It is all about persistence and it`s another necessary kind of studying needed to IMHO.

Cheers,
Rodrigo.
