Anyone else developing business Apps?

Just wondering if anyone is trying to use Corona to develop apps for business or is it all Games these days?

Maybe, if there is actually Corona interest/use for business Apps, a sub forum could created?

I develop biz apps for iOS. I currently prototype biz apps in Corona and I will switch to full development once native UI controls are available.

Ideally, I would develop games, iOS biz apps, and Mac apps all with Corona! Maybe I'm just dreaming about the Mac apps.

I would favor a new category for non-game app development. I would also favor reducing the clutter that exists in the forums today. Consolidate some categories, remove out-dated stickies, reduce some confusion about where certain types of questions or comments should be posted, etc.

I've been working on biz apps and I am looking forward to the native UI controls. I am especially interested in the Android side of things.

Thanks for chiming in :)

Since I'm not doing anything real fancy (in my opinion) I have all the controls I need but am having a hard time wrapping my head around some of it and when digging through the forum for answers most everything is game related.

I basically just do some data entry, get result from remote database and allow the user to change it, write it back to remote database.

The jest of it is to allow for live inventory corrections using an iPhone/iPod versus expensive Handhelds.

My latest "stuck" is getting buttons to appear in an onEvent function. Have a few more trial and errors to try before throwing in the towel.

I am developing apps for the corporate world. So far mainly information/ebook type things. Can not show anything too much at the moment but will sometime in the future.
Corona seems to be a great platform for this. The apps I am building are meant to be fun and almost game like but corporate oriented.

I have a list of non-game apps longer than my arm that I need to build. But I'm waiting on the new Corona UI stuff because I don't like working any harder than I need to.

And unless I get "Bubble Ball lucky" I think my non-game apps will actually make me a lot more money, so I'm really looking forward to the next release. :)

Anyone got a guessitmate on when the native UI bits will arrive? Even in rough daily build form?

We plan to do a business app but are holding off from buying till then.

I am new on corona sdk and want to develop business apps as you. do you have some tutorials or sample codes for data operations, call webservice etc. ? If you have could you share with me?Thanks from now

Once you subscribe to Corona SDK you will get access to the subscriber only forums and there is a whole forum dedicated to the new UI functionality. With that you should be able to develop non-game apps quite easily.

Since first asking this question I've made some progress.

Not done, but since the release of the Corona_UI it's been fun even though still quite challenging as it's the initial release. That said, I'm confident that I'll have my app in shape to try an Apple submission.

Since there are folks on the fence on whether to subscribe or not I thought I'd share some screen shots of my app. While just static, I do have everything working and am now at the stage of user-proofing, I.e. making sure all screen changes work in 'bashing mode'.

The regular UI is still used for buttons and some text displays but the selection stuff is mostly Corona_UI.

Still have ways to go, as does Corona, but for the most part I'm able to progress in a forward direction.

My environment: I develop on a Mac and have only tried iOS targeted for iPod and iPhone.

Well, I didn't throw in the towel and today I got my reward of sorts. Parts Lookup app went live today, less than a week from upload to app store.

Glad I didn't bail. It'll only get better as I learn more and Corona gets more refined towards developing for business. Had a few 'wrinkles' to iron out but overall it went pretty good. It's a free app. Take a look for yourself. Questions and comments relating to development welcome :)

@hwitten, nice app! It's good to see CoronaUI in a released app.

I've been experimenting with CoronaUI myself and it's interesting to see some of the workarounds you've used to get around some of the current limitations.

To answer the question in your original post, I'm also looking at using Corona for a few business apps, and hope that a more mature version of CoronaUI comes out soon...
