Google Android- Anyone doing good with their market?

Just a simple question. Is anyone doing good in the Android Market?

I am shocked at the lack of sales and even free downloads on the Android Market. The first day when the app was listed as new it did ok. After that the free one only gets maybe 2-5 a day. As of now I have not advertised, just posted in some forums. Did not advertise for the Apple version yet and it does worlds better Free version has been been 300+ a day for 8 months and at times broke 5000 a day.

I know the Android numbers are misleading for developers because many Android activations were simply people buying what the clerk told them to buy. I know 12 people with Android phones. 3 of them wanted an Android and use it as a smart phone and the other 8 just makes calls. In fact I was told by a relative that manages a Verizon store that he was told to push Android phones before the release of the iPhone on Verizon to help clear out some inventory.

Very interesting, ggindlesperger. If I recall, some pundits and Google fanboys billed 2011 as "The Year of Android", but so far I haven't seen much evidence of it. Not like I'm involved directly in phone sales or mobile device marketing, but I can vouch that I've met 1 person with an Android phone... yes, 1... and I know about 10 people who have an iPhone, iPad, iPad2, and sometimes multiples (case in point: my best friend has an iPhone4, his wife has an iPhone 3GS, his son has an iPad, and he's planning to buy an iPad2 for himself shortly). Not a single Android device in his family... and he's not an "Apple loyalist" or anything, he buys what is most useful and practical for his needs, brand nonwithstanding.

I don't mean to discredit or criticize Android needlessly, but if their app market is showing somewhat anemic sales, I certainly won't rush to create my app for Android. Can other developers provide (hopefully) better sales reports on the Android front?

Apart from the frustrations I read from developers having to accommodate so many different handsets, there also doesn't seem to be a way for someone to buy apps without a credit card. You can't buy an iTunes card at a store like you can with IOS. Also Apple always runs commercials for apps. We've all seen the "there's an app for that" commercials. Everyone I know who owns an iPhone the first thing they did was visit the app store.

I forgot to mention. I am actually getting more sales on HP's webOS App Catalog than I am on Android. The original Hairy Legs game was made using something called GLBasic and it now allows webOS publishing so I tried that and it is working better than Android.

We're doing okay on android, see my cross promotion thread if you want me to link to your games inside mine.
